Distribution

This includes the water mains, valves, booster pumps and other plumbing that connects the water source (currently our well) to our homes (actually to the shutoff at or near the street).

Regardless of the water source this infrastructure needs regular maintenance & repair.

An evaluation of the Foothills Water System was completed in August of 2002. This report identified the condition of the components of the system, and included estimated costs for necessary repairs. Copies are available from the Clerk.

In addition, in July 2004, an engineering study of the system was conducted.

Sources of water

Two wells. One is in service and requires a Green Sand Filter to control the manganese content.

Well Site

The wells are located in the peninsula just below the Foothills neighborhood, bordered on the south and west by the Browns river and on the east by The Creek. As a resident of the Foothills neighborhood, you have access to the well site and can use it for recreation.

2006 Upgrade

A major system upgrade was performed over the summer of 2006 and completed in November 2006. Work included a refit to the Filter building with new well and filters controls, demolishing the gazebo booster station and gable roof over the reservoir and building a new Booster Station above the reservoir which is now capped with a concrete slab. The Booster Station also received all new controls. Both buildings now report out thru the cellular network and can be managed on the internet.

Asset Management Plan

In 2023 the Prudential Committee worked with the state of Vermont to apply for funds via the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) to hire an engineering firm to draw up an asset management plan for JFD#1. A plan was developed and via the DWSRF, the district was fully reimbursed for the plan drawn up by East Engineering.
